Snapshots & Compare

Save your design at any point, try bold changes without fear, and compare versions side by side. Your safety net for creative experimentation.

What It Does

Snapshots let you freeze your design at a specific moment in time. Give it a name like "Before adding sashing" or "Warm palette version" and keep working. Your snapshot captures the entire state of your design wall: every block placement, every fabric assignment, and the wall dimensions.

The real power is in the compare mode. Open two snapshots side by side and see exactly how your design evolved. Swapped the background fabric? Changed from a straight set to an on-point layout? The differences are immediately visible when you compare. This is invaluable when you are debating between two color palettes or layout strategies.

If you decide your changes were a wrong turn, restore any previous snapshot with a single click. Your current design is replaced with the saved version, and you are right back where you were. No undo limits, no lost work, no regrets.

How to Use It

  1. Open Snapshots

Click the Snapshots button in the toolbar. You will see a list of any previously saved snapshots and an option to save a new one.

  2. Save Your Current Design

Click "Save Snapshot" and give it a descriptive name. The current state of your entire design wall is preserved, including all block placements and fabric assignments.

  3. Make Changes Freely

With a snapshot saved, you can experiment boldly. Try a completely different color scheme, rearrange your layout, or swap blocks. You can always get back to where you were.

  4. Compare Side by Side

Select two snapshots and enter compare mode. Both versions appear next to each other so you can evaluate which direction works better.

  5. Restore if Needed

Changed your mind? Click "Restore" on any snapshot to return your design wall to that saved state. Your current design is replaced, but you can always snapshot it first if you want to keep both versions.

Tips & Tricks

📝

Name your snapshots descriptively. "Version 3" tells you nothing in a week. "Blue/cream palette with sashing" tells you exactly what you will find.

🛡

Snapshot before risky changes. About to try on-point rotation, add sashing, or completely swap your palette? Save a snapshot first. It takes one second and gives you a guaranteed way back.

🔍

Use compare for color auditions. Save one snapshot with warm fabrics and another with cool fabrics. Compare them side by side and the right choice often becomes obvious immediately.

📚

Keep a design journal. Save snapshots at key milestones throughout your design process. When the quilt is finished, you can look back at how it evolved from idea to final layout.

Experiment Without Fear

Save snapshots, compare versions, and always have a way back to what was working.
